A Farewell to Echo

In which I write poetry, which I don’t do much or well, but I did this because it’s been knocking around in my head and we are moving.

So anyway
Farewell to all that
The big backyard
Sometimes home to chihuahuas
And roosters
And neighborhood cats
Farewell to the hallway that was everything
Bathroom, bedroom,
whydontyouhaveyourclothesonroom
The mirrored closets
The ceiling fans
That both babies would gaze upon
In wonder
Farewell to the kitchen
The many meals
The many candles
The many cheers
Farewell to the years
And the miles that I put on
My mind
When all I wanted was to be home to you three
(Even when you were only two)
The dull, repetitive churn
The slow burn of my life
Day after day
Farewell especially
To all that
We have uplifted it
And hollowed out the memory
The house is empty
There is only an echo now
